New theory: It was World Trade towers to collapse

For years, countless experts gave their opinion of what caused the World Trade Center to collapse on that fateful September day in 2001. Now, a Norwegian researcher found a new explanation.

For years it has otherwise been accepted that the most probable and also official explanation was that the towers' many steel beams were overheated by the fire which occurred when the two planes hit each tower of its 11th September 2001. And it was therefore the floors between joists to collapse.
But now, the Norwegian material scientist Christian J. Simens found a new explanation. He believes that it was liquid aluminum from the planes that made the towers to collapse, writes Videnskab.dk.
The researcher's theory is that the two aircraft were inside a thermally insulated layer of fallen building remnants of the towers. The intense heat caused by fires was therefore aircraft aluminum to melt, after which it flowed down through the building through holes in the floor and along the stairwell. As the molten metal came into contact with water from the building's sprinkler system was there, according to the researcher, some chemical reactions that led to the explosions, which eventually got the towers to collapse.

- Both through scientific experiments in the aluminum industry and from 250 recorded accidents in this industry, we know that the meeting between liquid aluminum and water triggers violent explosions, says Simens, who also supports his theory that witnesses have reported that they could hear explosions from short towers before they collapsed.

The theory fits more with the fact that the north tower collapsed an hour and 26 minutes after the plane hit it, while the south tower collapsed after 56 minutes. It requires a temperature of 660 degrees before aluminum alloys in the aircraft body can melt and it can take three minutes before it happens. The aluminum must be heated further up to 750 degrees until it is liquid.

According to the Norwegian researcher ended the two planes probably close to the middle of skyscrapers and was probably divided into two parts of the building's steel beams.

- I think the planes must have been lying in a heap formed by collapsing materials 2:00 to 3:00 floors below the floor, they hit. This whole pile must have been heated by the burning fuel. On the outside of the bunkers, the temperature probably been several hundred degrees lower than in the middle, says Christian J. Simens to Videnskab.dk.

Since the water and the molten aluminum reacted and led to explosions, the scientist's theory that an intermediate piece of the towers were torn out and the rest fell down and crushed the lower part.

Christan J. Simens has built his theory on the basis of the knowledge one has about meteors hitting the earth.

- They also come in low angle and high speed, says the Norwegian scientist and explain that meteors drill down into the earth where they become covered with soil residues. This causes the inner layers to melt and become one with one layer of glass without the meteor.

- Similarly, I believe the aircraft may have been covered by interior walls, ceilings and floors, which hit together around them, and as the aircraft probably scraped through the buildings. Much of this was gypsum, a material with very low thermal conductivity. The collapsed material was probably a shield that kept the heat around the aircraft and protected the rest of the building, he says.

The Norwegian researchers now hope that his theory can be used to save lives if a similar situation arise in which a plane for some reason had to fly into a building.

According to the researcher, one could for example make it possible to rapidly deplete the water in the sprinkler system quickly so it can not reach that react with the liquid aluminum, while another option might be to shoot rockets into the building with fire retardants, which can prevent the plane becoming overheated.
